This excerpt is taken from the book ‘Signature of God’ by Grant Jeffrey, published by Frontier Research Publications, 1996. I do not agree with all of what Mr. Jeffrey says about prophecy, however, this part of his book is quite good and explains why there is only several billion people on earth rather than several trillion x trillion x trillion…you get the point.
“Those who reject the Bible’s account of divine creation believe the evolutionary argument that mankind evolved by chance from lower lifeforms over billions of years. One of their conclusions is that mankind has existed on this earth for more than a million years. In contradiction to this evolutionary position, the Bible declares that mankind was created approximately six thousand years ago according to the chronological data presented in the Old Testament. The Bible clearly declares, through a detailed list of the generations from Adam to Christ, that mankind was created on the earth approximately four thousand years before the birth of Jesus Christ. Obviously a huge discrepancy exists between the evolutionist’s suggestion of man’s origin approximately one million years ago compared to the Bible’s declaration of man’s creation by God approximately six thousand years ago.
“Let us consider the growth rate of our human population to determine whether the Bible’s account of man’s creation only six thousand years ago, or the evolutionary scientist’ account of man’s evolution over one million years is consistent with known scientific data. According to the Scriptures, eight people comprising four couples survived the great Flood approximately forty-three hundred years ago as described in biblical chronology. To be conservative, we will make these calculations assuming that mankind started forty-three hundred years ago with only one surviving couple and that all families produced only 2.5 children on average 0ver the following centuries. This rate of population growth is much slower than we are experiencing in this century. If families produce only two children on average then the population would remain static without any growth. This conservative assumption of an average of 2.5 children per family will account for the natural depletion caused by war, famine and disease. Throughout history the average lifespan has lasted only 43 years per generation. Using these assumptions, during the last forty-three hundred years, there would have been one hundred generations lasting forty-three years each. The calculations reveal that our population would have grown from the time of the Flood till today to reach approximately five billion people. It is fascinating to note that the earth’s population today (5.5 billion worldwide) is almost identical with what we would expect if mankind began repopulating the earth after the Flood forty-three hundred years ago. I am indebted to Professor Henry M. Morris for his brilliant work on this topic in his excellent book, The Biblical Basis for Modern Science, which I highly recommend for any reader who wishes to explore this topic in greater depth. (Henry M. Morris, The Biblical Basis for Modern Science [Baker House: Grand Rapids, 1984], pp. 414-426). In this chapter I am simplifying the calculations but the results are the same.
“Now let us consider what the earth’s population would be if the evolutionary theory were correct. The evolutionary scientists who believe that man has existed for over one million years have an almost insurmountable problem. Using the same assumption of forty-three years for an average human generation, the population growth over a million years would produce 23, 256 consecutive generations. We calculate the expected population by starting with one couple one million years ago and use the same assumptions of a forty-three year generation and 2.5 children per family. The calculations reveal that we should have a total human population on earth today of 10 with 2091 zeroes behind it. The evolutionary theory of million years of growth would produce trillions x trillions x trillions x trillions of people that should be alive today on our planet. To put this number in perspective, this number is vastly greater than the total number of atoms in our vast universe. If mankind had lived on earth for a million years, we would all be standing on enormously high mountains of bones from all the trillions of skeletons of those who had died in past generations. However, despite the tremendous archeological and scientific investigation in the last two centuries, the scientists have not found a fraction of the trillions of skeletons predicted by the theory of the evolutionary scientists.
“The conclusion is obvious.
“The Bible’s account of Noah’s family repopulating the earth following the Flood approximately 4300 years ago is in agreement with the current population of the earth.
