What Now? (via Defending Contending)

Lately during really good witnessing encounters the question about what to do with someone who appears really remorseful over his or her sin has resurfaced for me. The other person who was witnessing with me took this as an opportunity to try to close the deal. Though this individual thankfully doesn’t subscribe to the sinner’s prayer nonsense, she wanted the person to pray a prayer of salvation from the heart. If the individual hesitated, she attempted to push him or her a little bit to go ahead and make a decision for Christ.

I’ve had trouble putting my finger on why this bothered me. Everything she was saying was technically true. Today is the day of salvation, and anyone can die at any time. However, it seemed she was coming off as a salesperson trying to convince a reluctant prospect…to read more, click HERE

Why? Football stars? Scandals? None of these…one word: EVOLUTION. When society believes they are nothing more than animals, then they will begin to live their lives as animals.

Exposing Hidden Idols

All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols… –Psalm 97:7     A verse like this makes me think of wooden figurines who squat on shelves with fat lips, bloated stomachs, and who hold bowls on tops of their heads. I saw one the other day when I passed by the open door of a Vietnamese nail parlor. A little Buddha sat on an altar behind the receptionist’s desk. It was draped in flowers, and surrounded by candles and incense.   We think we are too “contemporary” to take an idol like that seriously. But today’s verse isnot out of date. Idols put us to shame… whenever we feel ashamed.   Shame is what exposes the things you idolize. Imagine having coffee with a new friend. As the conversation flows, you feel witty and interesting. Your friend seems fascinated which only makes you pleased as punch with yourself. But then you knock your cup and spill coffee all over your white shirt. Everyone turns their heads, and instead of laughing it off, you feel stupid and silly. What a jerk I am! I want to crawl into a hole.   What idol did the feeling of shame and embarrassment expose? Pride in appearance? Smug self-confidence in conversational skills? An inflated idea of importance? You were hoping to come across as clever and winsome; but a little spilled coffee washed away your self-confidence, exposing a hidden idol. God has engineered our sense of shame to reveal those things, people, or vocations we idolize. But once our idols are unearthed, we can more easily do away with them.   The next time your cheeks turn red with shame, ask yourself, “What idol is my embarrassment revealing?” Once it’s knocked off the shelf of your heart, toss it. Keep your heart clean of idols. And then pray…   Father, forgive me for worshiping anything or anyone — especially myself — above you. Teach me to recognize shame as your way of exposing the idols in my life.

Urgent Prayer Request for a Baby

From Facebook. Please pray and trust God to receive glory out of this. He is the giver and taker of life, and we must trust that He will do exactly what He wants and not fall into worry or fear…

Urgent prayer request for baby “Gigi”, born yesterday with a tumour on her liver and internal bleeding, parents have been told by doctors they have never seen a paitient in this condtion recover, please, please let’s lift up baby and family in prayer together!

UPDATE: Please pray that the baby’s kidneys begin to work to eliminate fluid and drugs from her system so her blood pressure will stay stable to sustain her through the evening.
EEG – brain results not positive on the test today but hoping to do another test tomorrow for comparison.  That is the miracle we are praying for right now.

UPDATE:(The baby now has a name)”Giselle opened her eyes last night and today- it was a thrill for us but relative as her pupils still can not dilate.

Still waiting on the results of the second EEG and pathology. Still waiting for any sign of the kidneys working aka pee. Pray for kidneys and brain recovery as well as continued signs of stabilization”

update:”CT scan, unable to find the tiny brain stem… and the eyes remaining dilated for so long is not a good sign.
Pray for the delicate brain to function normally as this is the most important factor for all else.

The biopsy of the large tumour on her liver showed cancer on about 80%, and due to it rupturing the cancer could spread…it cannot be operated on as it would bleed…
If an undeniable miracle doesn’t happen regarding this…???…
(I’m trying not to think about that) all I can say is IF you have any faith for God to heal this please intercede…
(the doctors, even the top surgeons haven’t seen anything like this before.)We’re still holding out for a huge miracle or a series of little miracles.

After we saw Giselle they had to perform a third surgery to remove the packing that stopped the bleeding or it could become infected presenting further complications. Her gall bladder was removed also due to its condition. They said there was a high risk that she wouldn’t survive this surgery. (One reason we rushed into have Keira meet her…) But Val pointed out they’ve said that about the other two also.
Nevertheless, she continues to amaze us with such strength and her fight for life.
Gisella Anya has a purpose and reason for being here this long.
Maybe to unite people like you who care for others- to focus on praying for the impossible.
Maybe it’s to test our faith in God’s loving faithfulness and sovereign decisions…
Maybe to teach us a valuable lesson that every person’s life is a miracle…from conception to death.

Raised By Christ to Higher Heights

“And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus.”

There is a distinction between being quickened together with Christ and being raised up together with him. Is not this true in the experience of God’s people? To be quickened into divine life, to be convinced of sin, to have the fear of God planted deeply in the soul, is the commencement of a work of grace. But this is not a deliverance, not a being raised up out of darkness, bondage, doubt, guilt, and fear. This is not a knowledge of Christ, and the power of his resurrection; this is not a full coming out of the dark and silent tomb into the glorious light and warmth of day.

But here is the great blessedness of a mystical union with the Lord Jesus Christ that, as by virtue of interest in him there is a partaking of the benefit and power of his having been quickened, so there is a partaking in the benefit and power of his having been raised up. God does not quicken a soul into divine life to let it remain in the dark tomb of doubt, fear, guilt, and bondage. In raising up Christ there was not only a pledge of the spiritual, but a virtual resurrection of the members of his body. Liberty, then, the liberty of the gospel, deliverance from all doubt and fear, the manifestation of pardon and peace, the shedding abroad of the love of God in the heart, are blessings as much assured to the members of Christ’s mystical body as their first quickening into spiritual life, and both are equally assured them in Christ their covenant Head.
